Deal Cottage is a traditional Purbeck stone mid terrace cottage in the Herston area of Swanage. Formerly a quarryman’s home for many generations, this Grade II listed property is part of the original town, and from the front of the property it has uninterrupted views of two dramatic Purbeck Hills; Ninebarrow and Ballard Down.
Deal Cottage is a stylish comfortable cottage for 2 guests. The front door opens into the cosy living room, which has a beautiful log burner and comfortable sofa. Enjoy a quiet evening watching your favourite series on the Smart TV, which has Google Chromecast installed or relax with a book in front of the roaring fire. In the living room, there is a folding dining table providing space to dine when it isn’t quite warm enough for alfresco dining in the garden.
There’s a small hallway where there is space to store your coats and walking boots and then you enter into the small modern bathroom on the ground floor; it has a bath with a powerful overhead shower, WC and hand wash basin.
Heading through the cottage there is a small but well-equipped kitchen, with electric oven and hob, fridge, microwave and toaster. Up two steps from the main kitchen area, you enter the utility area which has a sink, dishwasher and washing machine. Beyond the kitchen, is a stable door which leads out to the small private courtyard garden area.
Heading upstairs, there is a wonderfully relaxing bedroom, which has beautiful views of the Purbeck Hills. The comfy king size bed has an ‘Emma’ mattress, with a luxuriously soft, breathable ECO Duvet from The Fine Bedding Company (made from 100% recycled PET bottles) and 100% cotton bed linen.
There is a second room upstairs which has ample wardrobe space, and an office work space which provides a useful area if you need to catch up on some work during your stay, if you don’t get distracted by looking out the window.
The sunny south facing courtyard garden has comfortable seating where you can enjoy your morning cup of coffee and a relaxing breakfast whilst listening out for the whistles of the steam train as it goes through the nearby Herston Halt station!
Deal Cottage has many of the original features of a 230-year-old cottage, including a steep narrow stairwell and unconventional steps in the kitchen and bathroom, therefore, it is unsuitable for children. Most of the ceiling are low, so you may need to duck if you are over 6 feet tall!
Deal Cottage is conveniently located on the High Street, which is a main road, so there may be traffic noise at peak times.
The property can be accessed from the front door or via the rear courtyard garden, and rear door, which is through a side gate and along a 1-metre-wide pathway which is shared with the 3 adjoining cottages in the terrace. The communal pathway continues through the width of the garden directly outside the rear stable door of Deal Cottage. You may well see neighbours walk past the rear of Deal Cottage to access their property during your stay. This is normal and the neighbours are lovely!
Deal Cottage does not have private parking, but you can find plenty of unrestricted parking, day and night, 25 metres from the rear gate, along Benlease Way.
Deal Cottage is a delightful, cosy retreat located in the wonderful seaside town of Swanage, only a 20 minute walk from the town centre. It is the perfect cottage for a couples to getaway to this fabulous area of Dorset. Swanage boasts a beautiful sandy beach, many outstanding scenic walks, and a large range of independent shops, restaurants, and pubs.

The Cottage is a perfect place to base yourself in Dorset. A 20 min walk into main town of Swanage with its sandy beach and a short drive to beautiful walks around Corfe, Arne and Worth Matravers. It's small but perfect for a couple, with gorgeous little touches around the house. Bed is so cosy and the storage is great! There's even a pretty garden with a BBQ. The place is perfectly kitted out and everything brand new. Would definitely recommend. Sad to leave it after a wonderful weeks holiday.
The cottage is beautiful, has been recently renovated and everything is brand new and tastefully chosen. It has a great layout, the spaces feel cosy but large at the same time. it has a cute little space outside perfect for reading and getting some rest and fresh air. The cottage was impeccably clean and had lovely smells in all different rooms and corridors. The house is lovely, nice furniture, comfy bed, good shower. It is so well equipped, they even have a great coffee grinder and a hand hoover! The decoration throughout is beautifully chosen, I particularly liked the screenprints they have. The whole area is perfect, you're a stones throw from the town, the beach, the steam train and a short drive to other beaches and the awesome Corfe castle ruins. Thank you again for such lovely time :)
It is a home from home, very clean , exceptionally well equipped, has the most comfortable bed, powerful shower, a cute garden and everything else you could need for a holiday. Positioned on the edge of Swanage and about a 20/25 walk to the town centre and beach. We stayed during the recent heatwave and spent most of our time on the beach, but did manage a quick visit to Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove on our last day. It was always a pleasure to return to the cottage at the end of the day and sit outside with a beer or glass of wine. We would definitely recommend a stay at this property.
Had a great stay at the cottage, it was exactly as described, with the attention to detail and information even better. The cottage was perfect, extremely comfortable and a lovely outside space. A perfect place to wander into Swanage, or to visit the surrounding area. Highly recommend the cottage.
